Preiser has enhanced the market leading Plastometer series of test instruments, used to determine the fluidity of coking coal, and leading Dilatometer series of test instruments, used to determine expansion and contraction characteristics of coal, to the next level of usability. Both units represent completely new instrument design. The Plastometer uses a commercial PC linked to an instrument specific interface and control box. Inter-unit cabling uses reduced size connections and a USB link to the host PC. The Plastometer head unit and solder pot retains the market leading proven assemblies outfitted with advanced component mounting and other mechanical improvements. The Dilatometer also uses the same commercial PC linked to an instrument specific interface and control box with the same style inter-unit cabling. The Dilatometer furnace retains the market leading proven assemblies outfitted with advanced component mounting and other mechanical improvements.

The instrument interface box is equipped to allow single, double, triple or quadruple instrument operation of a mix of desired Dilatometer and/or Plastometer instrument types which can be specified at time of purchase. The Plastometer is used for the determination of plastic properties of coal by the Gieseler constant-torque method. It is designed to meet the ASTM Standard D-2639, providing critical data necessary for the thorough analyses of coking coals. The Dilatometer's fully automatic system is designed around ASTM D-5515 and ISO Standard 349 for the Audibert-Arnu method of analysis.
